The Bible makes it clear that human life is more valuable than animal life. Human beings were created in the image of God. In the Old Testament the penalties are far more severe for killing or hurting people than animals. If someone accidentally killed another person there were places where they could run for protection until the facts came to light.
There are many lessons we can learn from these cities of refuge mentioned in the Old Testament.
