The Bible uses five different words for “forgiveness”. “Remission” means the debt which we owed God has been repaid. “Justification” means our crimes against Him have been removed from His record. “Purification” means we are clean from sin and worthy to worship God. “Sanctification” means we are set apart for holy use. And “reconciliation” means we have been brought back into the right relationship with God.
