When Salome appealed to Jesus on behalf of her sons for them to sit at his left and right sides in his kingdom she was asking for them to be esteemed higher than other men. But Jesus rebuked them. His kingdom was to be a spiritual kingdom in which they could serve not a physical one. In His kingdom the ones who made themselves most lowly were held highest.
