We can never earn salvation from God but we can be confident in our salvation if we have obeyed the Gospel and lived faithfully in His sight. At our very best we can only do exactly what He asked us to do. We can never exceed His expectations and we can never do enough good works to make up for our sins. So we have no reason to become prideful over our salvation.
